PARENTS / STUDENTS:
Businesses today - in a wide variety of industries - have found themselves to have need of employees with STEM skills, education and experience.
Areas in high-demand include: computing, life/physical sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Available jobs include education needs ranging from on-the-job training and apprenticeships to those requiring Associate, Bachelor and/or post-graduate degrees.
But these employees are getting more difficult to find every day. As an example, by 2020 there will be a 1.4 million computer specialist shortage to fill available job openings nationwide; in Michigan, we expect to see over 100,000 of these expected job openings. We currently have almost 15,000 open computing jobs in Michigan (4x the average demand in the state). These jobs are critical to our automotive, healthcare, general manufacturing, defense and other industries in the state, and they present exciting opportunities for recent graduates and career-changers, as well as strong demand for increased number of minorities and women.
We encourage you to visit the exhibits and demonstrations to learn more about the opportunities becoming increasingly available in Michigan.
